Mannequin Hands Creates Masterpieces on Mini Canvases
Hi Victoria! What is your creative outlet of choice?
I have a couple of creative outlets, now that doing nails is my job, it is still the number one thing I plan for when I’m feeling creative but I’ve also picked up shoe making and have been into beading since I was a kid. Having the variation really keeps me feeling inspired!
What drew you to such a craft in the first place?
My aunty and mum would have a nail artist come to the house to get their manicures and it really drew me to nail art, that and the Sabrina Secrets magazine how to!
How does the adjective cillie relate to who you are as a person?
It’s such a sweet word. The first thing that comes to mind is desire more than anything. I feel like being cillie is my objective everyday, the person I can be when I’m in a good mood and grounded in the present.
Tell us a little about your creative process and what inspires you.
The things that inspire me always stem from fashion, art or texture. There are so many things that can be translated onto nail art and look brand new and conceptual when you apply them to such a small canvas. Anything can be reimagined onto a nail and once a moment of “that’d look cute on a nail!” hits, it’s just a matter of thinking of what products would bring the vision to life!
What do you find most challenging about your craft?
There’s never enough time to experiment! There’s so many fun designs to try and play with but never enough hours in a day!
What do you find most rewarding?
Making something I haven’t seen before and making my clients happy!
What is the best advice you would give to someone who is considering a similar creative outlet?
Don’t wait to have all the tools to make something new, experiment, mix and match and don’t feel the pressure to adhere with classical rules, other than good prep! Always follow that rule!
